Abstract | "Emotional Development: Fostering the Child's Identity" is a manual for use in training families providing service to foster children. Consisting of information to be covered in eight class sessions and numerous appendices providing supplementary material, this instructor's manual contains instructor's materials and participants' course content. Instruction focuses on stages of development; developmental dimensions and developmental lag; emotional development; understanding children's behavior; handling behavior to build self esteem; the child's family and ethnic heritage; the fantasy family and heroes; and the foster family's role in assisting development. Lists of suggested readings for foster parents and instructors are provided. (RH) |
