AbstractThe articles in this issue are mainly concerned with how to reach the poorest and most disadvantaged sections of the population and how best to help once contact has been made. "Nijera Kori in Retrospect: In Search of an Organization of the Rural Poor" (Mohiuddin Ahmad) provides extracts from an evaluation of this grassroots, village-based, nongovernmental organization working mainly with women in Bangladesh. "People's Action in Asia: Constraints, Possibilities, Breakthrough Points" (Kamla Bhasin and Baljit Malik) contains an analysis of nongovernmental organizations in Asia and discusses how some of those working towards people's participation in development are approaching the task. Some extracts from a lecture by Bakthan Tychicus on "education for liberation" provide the reader with his philosophy on how to help people understand their situation and from that understanding to look for ways to improve that situation. "Popular Theatre, Conscientization, and Popular Organization" (Ross Kidd) provides the background to what popular theater is and how it can help people transform structures keeping them exploited and dependent. "Third World Popular Theatre" (Michael Etherton) describes a play developed by and for landless laborers and discusses how popular theater can be used. "Continuing the Literacy Debate" (Heribert Hinzen) contains stories and outlines of reports taken from personal experience. (YLB)
