Abstract | This health education guide for grade eight is divided into six sections. A statement of the sub-goal for each section prefaces an outline for achieving that goal: (1) social-emotional well-being: to enhance self-awareness and increase skills that promote personal development and successful relationships; (2) physical well-being: to increase awareness about body systems and adopt lifestyle practices that promote and maintain physical well-being; (3) nutrition: to develop proficiency in making food choices that maintain and promote well-being; (4) dental health: to develop proficiency in applying dental health concepts, attitudes and skills that maintain and promote dental well-being; (5) safety: to practice safety and survival procedures that promote individual and community well-being; and (6) environmental health: to understand the importance of making responsible lifestyle decisions regarding disease, environmental factors and community health resources. The outline of each section includes objectives for students with a variety of activities from which to choose, and suggestions for the teacher. (JD) |
