| Abstract | One in a series of teaching units for gifted high school students, the document discusses humanities instruction for gifted students in grades 9-12. It is explained that the syllabus suggests a focus on three themes throughout the year: the search for meaning in a personal and larger context, the study of prejudice, and the pursuit of utopia. A note on classroom procedures mentions the centrality of discussion and dialogue, with the teacher acting as a guide and coordinating outside speakers and out-of-class enrichment experiences. Suggested readings and media and suggested activities are offered for the three major themes: the search for meaning and self-identity; the nature of prejudice, specifically towards Blacks, Jews, and women; and examples of efforts to establish a utopia.
