Abstract | This guide contains ideas and resources for adult education. It provides practical suggestions and specific guidance in five areas of adult education: adult basic education, high school completion/general education development, English for speakers of other languages, exceptional adult basic education, and the elderly. The guide focuses on the attitude of staff development planners, trainers, educators and administrators toward adult learning. There are two parts to the guide. Part I contains ideas for the staff development planner. Each of its four sections encourages awareness of human potential, individual growth, and openness to experience. Section 1 presents lists of reference texts and audiovisual materials on the nature of adult learning. Section 2 provides an annotated list of short films suitable for inservice programs that concern attitudes, roadblocks to learning, and decisionmaking. The third section introduces journal writing techniques. Section 4 lists books that point to new and positive directions for adult education. Part II contains practical references and audiovisual materials for staff development in the five areas of adult education. They have been recommended by practitioners in the field. In some sections, curriculum guides and computer-aided instruction for classroom use are included. A list of current periodicals that deal with computers in education also is provided. (KC) |
