Abstract | This book records highlights of the development of electrical engineering education at the University of Missouri-Rolla (UMR), first known as the University of Missouri School of Mines and Metallurgy (MSM). Chapter I focuses on the formative years (1871-1924), discussing the first course of study in electricity, expansion of the electrical engineering curriculum, the faculty, physical facilities, curriculum, and students. Chapter II discusses the years of growth and rationalization (1924-1959), examining the faculty of the electrical engineering department formed in 1924; students, student organizations, physical facilities, and curriculum (separately for 1924-1945 and 1946-1959); program accreditation; and MSM activities during and after World War II. Chapter III considers the maturation of the electrical engineering department from 1959 to the present. Areas addressed include: physical facilities; faculty development, the change from MSM to UMR; and department chairmen, students, student organizations, and curriculum (1959-1983). An alumni directory is included, providing alphabetical, class, and geographical listings. Also included are lists of members of the Academy of Electrical Engineers, Eta Kappa Nu Association membership (Gamma-Theta Chapter), and MSM/UMR faculty in electrical engineering. (JN) |
