| Abstract | This atlas is a nontechnical presentation of the geography and history of world commercial nuclear power with particular emphasis on the United States. Neither pro- nor antinuclear, it presents commercial nuclear power data in a series of specially prepared, easily read maps, tables, and text. The first section (United States) includes information on: nuclear beginnings; second generation power plants; commercial nuclear power plants (1984); installed capacity of nuclear power plants (1984); power reactors under construction (1984); cancellation of power reactors (1984); projected capacity of nuclear power plants (1999); and non-power reactors (1984). The second section (the world) includes information for 1984 on world nuclear power and nuclear power in North America, South America, the Orient, Japan, and Europe. Additional maps and tables are included in appendices. The maps illustrate (for 1984) commercial nuclear power plants in Europe, the Orient, South America, Japan, and North America. The tables provide data on operating nuclear plants in the U.S. (1984), third generation reactors, nuclear power plants under construction (1984), and nuclear power plants in the U.S. (1999). (JN) |
