AbstractThe purpose of this study was to determine the validity of the National Teacher Examinations (NTE) Core Battery for use in teacher certification in Louisiana. This information was produced to assist in the recommendation and establishment of a required score on the NTE. The jury judgment approach was used. Panels of faculty members were drawn from Louisiana institutions of higher education to validate the content of the tests in the Core Battery and estimate the score that could be expected from a minimally knowledgeable teacher candidate. The Content Review Panel found that 93 percent of the Professional Knowledge Test, 98 percent of the Mathematics Test, 97 percent of the Science Test, 100 percent of the Social Studies Test, 84 percent of the Literature/Fine Arts Test, 100 percent of the Reading Test, 98 percent of the Listening Test, and 96 percent of the objective items on the Writing Test were content appropriate. The Panel concluded that the NTE Core Battery is a valid measure for the teacher education curricula in Louisiana. The Knowledge Estimation Panel evaluated the difficulty and importance of each item of each of the eight Core Battery Tests, then estimated the proportion of items that the minimally knowledgeable teacher candidate would answer correctly.
