AbstractThe Cooperative Health Occupations Assistants Program (CHOAP) is a two-year program for high school juniors and seniors in the Chicago (Illinois) public school system. CHOAP has three purposes: to acquaint young people with the scope of career opportunities in the health field, to prepare them for entry jobs in the field, and to help students make the transition from school to work by means of work experience in the area of their choice. This core curriculum is a course of study to assist students in learning about career opportunities and acquiring skills and knowledge for the health careers field. The manual has five units, each of which contains a list of concepts and measurable objectives, as well as multiple student activities. The units cover: (1) orientation; (2) fundamental knowledge and skills for health workers; (3) understanding of basic needs necessary to maintain mental and physical health; (4) skills required in most health occupations; and (5) orientation to death and dying. A bibliography is included. (CJB)
