Abstract | Intended for school administrators and prevocational education teachers, this guide provides information, program standards, policies, and concepts for a prevocational education program. The information is designed to aid in formulating a valid perception of prevocational education and to serve as a reference for program planning and curriculum and instructional preparation. In the first two sections are provided concepts for prevocational education (philosophy, definition, description, and purpose) and principal and comprehensive objectives. Material in the section on program planning and development deals with policies, standards, and concepts necessary to maintain and improve existing programs and to plan new programs. Topics covered include state board policy, prevocational education personnel, professional staff development, the advisory committee, curriculum and instructional development, the "world of work" unit, occupational information, occupational orientation and exploration, guidance services and procedures, instructional plans, alternative instructional plans, instructional materials, the safety education program, and safety considerations. Educational specifications are detailed in the section on physical facilities and equipment. The final section lists program standards and evaluation criteria. Appendixes include program objectives, a description of the Prevocational Education Kit Delivery-Return System, and curriculum and instructional evaluation criteria. (YLB) |
