Abstract | This report summarizes the proceedings of the international seminar for guidance counselors which focused on: (1) the social function of the system of guidance and counseling services, and the task of the school counselor in this system; and (2) the aims, tasks, content, and organization possibilities of educational, research, and information cooperation in the solution of problems on regional and international levels. A brief overview of the 48 specialists from 12 European countries who participated in the seminar is followed by a description of the framework of the seminar and lists of the members of the preparatory and organizational committees. A brief outline of the schedule for each of the 5 days is provided along with a summary of the issues dealt with by participants including: (1) prestige of the school counselor; (2) meetings at which school counselors could share their experiences; and (3) inclusion of work with parents, teachers, and other interested institutions in programs of in-service education. The 15 final recommendations adopted by conference participants are presented and include organizing joint research teams, preparing and publishing a terminological dictionary, and organizing the systematic exchange of information.
