AbstractBased on a survey of displaced homemakers and displaced homemaker advisory committee members in Texas and on a literature review, this guide was developed to help leaders of displaced homemaker programs conduct workshops for their clients. Following an introduction which explains the rationale for conducting workshops for displaced homemakers, the guide is organized into three sections. The first section explains how to organize workshops, including setting the time and place, dealing with guest leaders, generating publicity, offering extra services, assisting handicapped clients, conducting the workshop, and evaluating the workshop. The second section lists the results of the project survey that determined which subject areas are considered to be important for inclusion in a displaced homemaker workshop series. The final section of the guide contains outlines for two weeks of workshops on the subject areas rated "very important" by the client and advisory groups, along with five days of optional workshops on other topics. The outlines give suggestions for each session, covering session length, objectives, major points to be covered, format, suggested sources for gaining detailed information on the subject, and any special suggestions that will help in conducting the particular session. Topics covered in the model workshop plan include self-enhancement, financial management, single parenting, looking at careers, job search skills, and wrap-up sessions. Optional workshops include these topics: living in the community, nutrition and good grooming, living without a spouse, and success on the job. The workshop outlines were field-tested at Central Texas College. (KC)
