Abstract | This teaching guide is designed for use in implementing the first level of a comprehensive entrepreneurship curriculum entitled: A Program for Acquiring Competence in Entrepreneurship (PACE). Designed for use with secondary students, the first level of PACE consists of 18 lessons that introduce students to the concepts involved in entrepreneurship and help them become aware of entrepreneurship as a career option. The guide contains the following materials: an introduction to PACE, instructions for using the program, its objectives, a description of the program's going-into-business project, teaching outlines for each of the program's 18 units, transparency masters, handouts, model activity responses, model assessment responses, and a list of selected curriculum resources. Included in the teaching outlines are series of objectives and teaching suggestions for conducting lessons on the following topics: understanding the nature of small business, determining one's potential as an entrepreneur, developing a business plan, obtaining technical assistance, choosing a type of ownership, planning for marketing strategy, locating the business, financing the business, dealing with legal issues, complying with government regulations, managing the business, managing human resources, promoting the business, managing sales efforts, keeping business records, managing finances, managing customer credit and collections, and protecting the business.
