Abstract | This volume consists of three units of a basic core curriculum that is intended for all health workers. Covered in the units are the following topics: (1) the body's need for food, the effect of food on the body, the five food groups, the six nutrients, and therapeutic diets; (2) general principles of asepsis, specific methods of maintaining medical and surgical asepsis, the infectious process, and transmission of disease; and (3) words and phrases used in making nursing observations; roots, suffixes, and prefixes; commonly used abbreviations and symbols; and surgical and diagnostic terms. The units contain a series of learning modules, each of which contains a rationale, performance objectives, learning activities, terminology, and one or more posttests. (MN) |
