Abstract | This PLACE Sourcebook on the World of Work provides clients in employment counseling with information about occupations, the norms of the labor market, and sources that clients can consult to find additional information on the part of PLACE related to doing well on the job. For each employment-related topic in the corresponding Workbook (CE 031 887) there is a section in the Sourcebook that clients can read to analyze the nature of employment requirements for that topic. The Sourcebook can also be used by clients to find out what is meant by questions in the workbook to determine how they should be answered. It sets forth those skills or resources that must be obtained to overcome each employment problem. Topics covered include looking and acting the part (appearance, timekeeping, and following company policies), meeting work standards (work methods and care of equipment and materials), working with people (communications skills and human relations skills), and showing initiative.
