Abstract	On behalf of the Joint Committee on Standards for Educational Evaluation, the author reviews the Committee's recent efforts and discusses the needs for further work related to the "Standards for Evaluations of Educational Programs, Projects, and Materials." The Committee has developed a program to guide its work. The program addresses four areas of activity: provision of training and technical assistance; research, development, and training for interpretation and use of the Standards; dissemination of information related to the standards; and revision of the Standards as needed. Critiques of the Standards appeared in the May 1981 issue of "Evaluation News." A content analysis of these critiques yielded both positive and negative comments in four areas: content, rationale, structure, and use. Further work on the content of the Standards should address the trade-offs among them, the use of needs assessment in evaluation, and audiovisual training materials. Dialogue among various standard-setting groups would further develop the Standards' rationale. The structure of the standard-setting process could be improved by expanding the Committee membership. The use of the Standards in field tests should be encouraged. (BW)
