| Abstract | Designed to help librarians identify Appalachian novels in an existing school library collection (grades 5-12), the 291 books included in this checklist have been chosen from 7 commonly available bibliographic tools, were published between 1902 and 1979, and contain subject matter dealing with the area of southern Appalachia which encompasses parts of Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia. Numbered and arranged alphabetically by author, the entries provide title, publisher, date of publication, coded bibliographic source, and, in most cases, a brief annotation.
