Abstract | A brief summary of data, in tables with some narrative, from the Survey of Earned Doctorates during fiscal year 1980 is presented. Both research and applied research doctorates with these degree designations are included: DAS, DArch, DA, DBA, JCD, DCJ, DCrim, EdD, DEng, DESc, ScDE, DEnv, DED, DFA, DF, DGS, DHS (Health and Safety), DHS (Hebrew Studies), DHL, DIT, SDJ, JSD, DLS, DMin or DM (Ministry), DM (Music), DMA, DME, DML, DNSc, PhD, DPE, DPA, DPH, DRec, or DR, DRE, DSM, STD, DSc, DScH. DScD, LScD, DScVM, DSSc, DSW, and ThD; some other are excluded. The five basic tables and one sub-table present: (1) the number of doctorate recipients by sex and subfield; (1a) recipients by citizenship, racial/ethnic group, and subfield; (2) statistical profile by sex and doctorate field (including such characteristics as marital status, bachelor's and master's degrees and fields, time lapse, study and employment plans, and employment region and activity); (3) percentage of recipients by sources of support in graduate school, by sex, and summary field; and (5) statistical profile by racial or ethnic groups and U.S. citizenship status. The survey questionnaire and a specialties list are appended. (MSE) |
