Abstract | A pilot study was conducted to identify sex role factors which could affect the search for employment and the adjustment to employment for vocational graduates in selected occupational areas. Target employment areas were identified through a review of occupations with a disproportionate composition by one sex or the other. These included construction trades, mechanical repairing trades for women, health occupations, and secretarial and clerical occupations for men. Among the findings were perceptual differences, which indicated changes in the perceptions of men and women to factors affecting their initial employment, factors affecting their adjustment to employment during their first six months on the job, and factors affecting their adjustment during their continuing period of employment for the remainder of the first year. Data collected on the format and structure of the research instrument used in the study indicated that the content of the research instrument was appropriate and valid to the topic.
