Abstract	Findings are presented from a May 1969 survey on the growing number of "moonlighters" in the work force: (1) one in twenty workers held more than one job during the survey week; (2) three of every ten multiple jobholders were women, nearly double the proportion of 1969; (3) the number of men with multiple jobs remained about the same; (4) the moonlighting rate for black men dropped more rapidly than that for white men; and (5) the rate for black women remained stationary, while that for white women rose sharply. Other findings include that public administration and agriculture and services were groups of industries employing large proportions of workers who moonlighted; second jobs were largely in agriculture, self-employment, and services; and farmers and farm managers and professional and technical workers reported higher moonlighting rates. These reasons for moonlighting are indicated: meeting regular expenses, saving for future, enjoying the work, paying off debts, getting experience. The following materials supplement the findings summary: an explanatory note on the survey methodology and twelve tables detailing personal characteristics, industry group and class of worker, occupation(s), and hours worked.
