Abstract | This report provides statistical information regarding the quality and cost of housing occupied by Hispanic Americans throughout the United States. Some of the findings include: (1) Hispanos occupy older and worse dwellings than the general U.S. population, with a significant number of dwellings lacking heat and adequate electricity and plumbing facilities; (2) Hispanos spend a larger portion of their income on housing than does the general population; (3) within the Hispanic population, there are substantial inequalities in terms of housing, with Puerto Ricans living under the worst conditions and Cuban Americans under the best; (4) the probability of an Hispanic family occupying an inadequate dwelling varied, depending on family size, subgroup (nationality) and sex of the household head, and the region of the country in which the family lives.
