AbstractThis document contains a conceptual model of the curriculum-teaching-learning process as an open and organic system and nine instructional modules on the family which are based on an inductive approach. Intended originally for use in a social science course on the college level, it was designed to introduce students to the significant components of learning in the inductive mode. The inductive approach is an educational strategy in which the teacher and learner assume equal responsibility and equal accountability for the learning process. Titles of the instructional modules are "Family Systems--Experientially Understood"; "Learning About Your Own Type of Family"; "Analyzing Your Family"; "Recognizing and Describing Role Relationships in Your Family"; "Identifying Status, Power, Conflict, and Values in Your Family"; "Identifying the Universal Functions of the Family"; "Comparing Structural Universals With The Structural Nature of Your Family"; "Making Distinctions in your Family's Interaction Style"; and "Developing a Construct About Your Family." Within each module, students are directed to take a pretest, review terms and principles used in the module, participate in several learning activities based on an inductive approach, and take a posttest. For each module, objectives, prerequisites, and a statement of purpose are presented. Students are involved in a variety of activities including writing research papers, keeping journals of family activities and attitudes, analyzing films, describing family events, answering questions on assigned readings, and developing a psychodrama based on role-playing among members of a family unit. Many of the activities depend upon supplementary resources, including films, reading, and models. These resources are identified within the appropriate module by title, publisher, author, and/or producer. (DB)
