Abstract | This joint report of the New York Department of Labor and the New York Education Department describes the nature, administration, and extent of registered apprenticeship training in New York State as of December 31, 1979. Part 1 presents a brief historical overview of the evolution of the apprenticeship system and description of what apprenticeship is today. This information is intended for individuals who assist youth in choosing vocational goals. Part 2 summarizes legislation and describes the roles and responsibilities of the various state and federal agencies concerned with apprenticeship. This information aids potential program sponsors in identifying the nature of services provided by governmental agencies. Part 3 contains 1979 program data on apprentices and programs. Tables in this part provide a source of information for program administration at all levels of government. Table 12 analyzes statistical highlights and trends from 1973 through 1979. Appendixes, amounting to over one-half of the report, contain apprenticeship regulations, registrations, and explanatory information. Also included is the summary of the report Training and Work Experience of Former Apprentices in New York State. It represents the first statewide effort to survey the employment experiences of those who were previously enrolled in a registered apprenticeship program. (YLB) |
