Abstract	This book was written in response to a need expressed by Infant's Mistresses in the North Sydney Region of the New South Wales Department of Education. They felt there was a need to evaluate children's progress in mathematics in order to diagnose the causes of individual failures, and they discovered there was no readily available information on either what or how to test. A committee was appointed to investigate and rectify the situation. Goals selected were a massive list of learning objectives, and approximately five test items per objective were constructed. This document consists of instructions and information on testing, selected notes and comments, the tests, an appendix on trialling, and sample student response sheet forms, the product of several years of work. The tests are devised for administering to individual elementary school pupils in grades K-4 with the object of observing the responses of those pupils. The tests are set out in continuous form without age or grade labels, and are organized within three broad categories of number, shape, and measurement. (MP)
