Abstract | Written in terms of behavioral objectives, the teaching strategies in this guide are divided into nine areas: the parts of speech, the basic sentence pattern, literary genre and their elements, composition, creative writing, vocabulary development, literature, library systems, and punctuation. Following each stated objective are suggested activities. The 19 appendixes serve several purposes: (1) for those objectives that seem to be particularly difficult to teach, a teaching unit is suggested; and (2) for those objectives that can be used with qualitatively different students, some ideas are presented. Fun, creative ideas are also described. Among the topics addressed in the appendixes are the novel, book reports, poetry, short stories, paragraph writing, readability formulas, Latin and Greek elements, a media survey and newspaper study guide, a book list for grades seven through ten, recommended commercial games, a list of audiovisual resources, a note on plagiarism, and literature dealing with minority groups.
