| Abstract | The document provides reports on 92 model programs serving families with developmentally disabled individuals. Programs range from the avoidance of residential care, through an active parent staff intervention activity, to the outreach by staff into the home of the child where the parent has been trained to carry out a number of activities, to the program in which the parents themselves do most of the work after having been trained to teach other parents how to manage, train, and supervise thier handicapped children. A majority of the programs focus on the mother as the major figure in the family to attend the training programs and provide the home intervention. In a few cases, the fathers attend, and in some, the mothers train the fathers and siblings at home to help with management of the handicapped child. Several states have programs which reach out to families in rural areas. Programs are presented in sections for each of the 10 United States' geographical regions and one foreign region (Wales). Data on each program usually includes the following: title, address, contact person, target population, purpose, expected results, staff required, service delivery, material costs, agencies involved, and comments.
