AbstractRolebooks and technical Iberian Spanish vocabulary for the job position of military advisory and assistance group (MAAG) officer of the Air Force are presented. The materials are part of the communication/language objectives-based system (C/LOBS), which supports the front-end analysis efforts of the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center. The C/LOBS project, which is described in 13 volumes and an executive summary, functions as a subsystem of the instructional systems development approach currently in use in the TRADOC school system. Five job/duty positions and three languages were selected for field testing and system validation. The roles required for job performance by MAAG officers are advisor, advocate, questor, and aide. The rolebooks provide sample Spanish utterances for each function for the following function categories: intellectual attitudes, emotional attitudes, and getting things done. These utterances indicate the tone and level of formality appropriate to each role. The vocabulary lists provide examples of technical or special terms that are required for adequate job performance.
