Abstract | This generic model is intended to provide a rationale and conceptual basis for thinking about and understanding the institutionalization of environmental education. To achieve this purpose, the document: (1) broadly defines EE; (2) presents a systems view of formalized education; (3) presents a view of EE contextualized in the formal education setting; (4) discusses the process of institutionalized change in education; (5) characterizes a generic model of institutionalized environmental education; and (6) presents basic elements of a system for institutionalizing environmental education.
