| Abstract | Appendix I presents national inventories and analyses of the problems, objectives, and instruments pertinent to the rural areas of 21 countries. Data, including land area, agricultural ratio, and report and map sources, are provided for Austria, Belgium, Cyprus, Denmark, Finland, France, Federal Republic of Germany, Greece, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, United Kingdom, and Yugoslavia. Appendix II reports on a survey and analysis of 132 European metropolitan areas and 172 main lines of communication in national frameworks. This examination of the present state of development is an essential basis for generating ideas concerning the structure and regional planning of Europe. Appendix III provides a summary analysis of the objectives, instruments and measures available nationally, illustrating the influence of metropolitan areas and main lines of communication on a regional planning design.
