Abstract | A discussion is presented on eliminating the current fragmentation of the undergraduate liberal education curriculum and developing a curriculum by building curricular areas not around disciplines but around questions, problems, and enduring ideas for constructive social change. A description is given of three exemplary projects developed to improve college curriculum: The Project on General Education Models (GEM), sponsored by the Society for Values in Higher Education; The American College Testing Program/College Outcome Measures Project (ACT/COMP); and The Academic Program Evaluation Project (APEP), sponsored by the American Association of State Colleges and Universities.
