| Abstract | Intended for state directors of special education in the Southwest Region, the information packet provides materials relating to the development, initiation, implementation or refinement of impartial due process procedures. Included are the following: a matrix outlining current procedures, policies, and general information on due process from other selected states; a discussion on how different states are responding to specific due process issues in areas where federal laws allow alternative approaches; a discussion on the mediation processes used by some states, and a rationale for implementing a mediation/conciliation/prehearing process; a question-and-answer paper prepared by the Assistant Director of Procedural Safeguards and Due Process from Ohio; and copies of training manuals obtained from other states.
