Abstract | This document is a set of guidelines on how to conduct the self-evaluation required by Title IX, the amendment prohibiting discrimination on the basis of sex. Its purpose is to help school districts comply with the necessity to evaluate policies and practices by providing a data base for decision-making. The paper is divided into these sections: admissions, education programs and activities, access to courses, counseling and guidance, athletics, texts and instructional materials, and employment. Each section offers a four-step sequence. Step 1 asks the school system to identify all sources of information related to policies and practices in the district. Step 2 reduces the information to a quantitative form. Step 3 involves the comparing of the data from step 2 with the regulations to identify any discrepancies in the school system's practices. Step 4 involves the planning of specific action to remove discrepancies that will bring the district into compliance with Title IX regulations. (Author/LD) |
