AbstractStudent perception of food service facilities at North Carolina State University was surveyed in 1977. Of 1,100 randomly selected residence hall students, 799 responses were obtained. Respondents were asked to evaluate food service facilities and to report their eating habits. Study was limited to eating habits in their rooms, in campus cafeterias, and off-campus. In general, 64.3 percent of the respondents indicated that they were satisfied with their present eating arrangements. Respondents reported a preference to eat in their room (36.5 percent), in a cafeteria (35.4 percent), and off-campus (28.1 percent). Respondents rejected the concept of a required meal plan to support an on-campus cafeteria. Sixty-eight percent of the respondents indicated they would not favor required meal plans for freshmen, and 70.7 percent would not favor paying approximately $650 per semester for a room and board plan. The report provides information on facility use and satisfaction and problems with campus facilities and presents respondents' suggestions and comments. The questionnaire is appended. (SW)
