AbstractThe success or lack of success of the students who participated in the experimental pre-postsecondary programs conducted in four Ohio areas in 1974-75 was assessed. The program rationale was the need to offer students in grades 11 and 12 a diversity of pre-postsecondary programs to prepare them for postsecondary occupational or baccalaureate programs. Data were collected from the administrators, program coordinators, instructors, and students who participated in the programs through mail questionnaires and interviews. The conclusions include the following: (1) an effective and fiscally efficient pre-postsecondary program requires careful screening and selection of participants, (2) students completing the program did pursue postsecondary education, (3) students completing the program tended to pursue postsecondary areas of study other than the special areas studied in the program about as often as they pursued the special areas, (4) students and instructors perceived the program as an effective preparation for postsecondary education, (5) instructors and students agreed that the most important program outcome was helping students make a career choice, and (6) the opportunity for a hands-on experience for students rated high with both instructors and students. (Three sample questionnaires are appended.) (EM)
