Abstract | Presented are 26 articles originally published in "Science" during 1975-78. The document is divided into three parts. The first part contains articles on changes in energy use. Included are articles on industrial energy use, energy options and strategies for Western Europe, energy use in Brazil, and solar energy for village development, as well as an article on water use requirements of various energy options, and one on prediction of future atmospheric carbon dioxide levels. The second part is on conservation and public policy. It covers the U.S. energy demand, energy conservation in Sweden, transportation energy conservation policies, and the effects of federal residential energy conservation programs. The last part summarizes the future of fossil fuels, fission energy, solar energy, and fusion energy. (BB) |
