Abstract	Region 8 of the California Migrant Education Program, located in the central portion of the state, is composed of Kings and Tulare Counties. A study was conducted, using data from the Migrant Student Record Transfer System, to examine the flow patterns of migrant students to, from and within the state in 1977. It showed that intrastate movement dominated the picture. In 1977, 301 migrant students entered the region from another state and 221 moved to other states. Texas and Washington accounted for most of the arrivals and departures. Intrastate movement included 2,519 students entering and 2,524 students departing schools in the region. Grade level breakdowns on intrastate migrant students showed 1,743 students entering grades K-6 and 1,713 departing, 421 students entering grades 7-8 and 434 departing, and 355 students entering grades 9-12 and 377 departing. Almost 6,000 migrant students in Region 8 were reported as not having moved during the year. For trend analysis, data from three years were compared. Between 1975 and 1976 there was a 31.5% increase in the number of nonmobile students in the region, but a year later this group decreased by 19%. In 1975 and 1976, 82% of the students leaving Region 8 schools entered other schools in the region; this figure increased to 84% in 1977. This report includes state, regional and county breakdowns of the students' destinations, origins, numbers, and grade levels. Data comparing the three years are also included. (DS)
