Abstract	Fresno County comprises Region 4 of the California Migrant Education Program. The area enjoys a low 6.9% unemployment rate compared to the state average of 7.83%. An analysis of movement patterns of migrant students from, to, and within the state showed that 348 migrant students entered the region from another state in 1977; Texas, Arizona and Washington were the major sending states. Departing to other states were 414 students; Texas, Arizona and Washington received 78% of these students. Intrastate students totaling 3,962 entered Region 4 schools, with 93% coming from other Region 4 schools. Other major sending regions were Regions 3 and 8. Grade level breakdowns showed 2,495 intrastate entries in grade K-6, 856 entries in intermediate grades, and 611 intrastate entries in high school. During 1977, a total of 3,973 intrastate students left schools in Region 4 but 92% of them went to other schools in the county. Almost 9,000 students showed no movement during the year. Inter- and intrastate movement summaries for 1975, 1976 and 1977 indicated an increase in both the number of nonmobile students and in the number of schools in which these students were enrolled. Between 1975 and 1977 intrastate migrant student movements within a given region increased from 88% to 92%. Tabular data includes state, region and county breakdowns on such information as numbers, origins, destinations and grade levels.
