Abstract | This bilingual French-English unit for first-year high school students discusses how to travel by train in France. It is divided into five parts: (1) "Les Horaires," which teaches the twenty-four hour time system and how to read a timetable; (2) "Le Billet," which teaches how to purchase a train ticket and the choices that are available; (3) "A la Gare," an audio-motor lesson which emphasizes what can be done at a French train station and on a French train; (4) "Le Train," which discusses information about the French train system and the parts of a train; and (5) "Le Pauvre Americain," which presents observations and discussion of confused Americans on French trains. These modules are designed to be used consecutively although not necessarily on a daily basis. Each section is illustrated with pen and ink drawings and contains specific objectives, the evaluation procedure, necessary content information, the instructional procedure, a "Lesson Aids" section with dialogues, vocabulary exercises, check questions, and follow-up activities. A lesson in English containing useful information for the American traveler, several skits, a worksheet and a quiz complete the unit. (Author/AMH) |
