AbstractThe Canadian Association in Support of the Native Peoples (CASNP) seeks to promote wider awareness and understanding among non-Native Canadians for Native objectives and to assist Native peoples to develop programs and resources to further these objectives. During 1977-78 the CASNP carried out a number of programs fulfilling these dual roles. The CASNP library, the best publicly-available collection of materials on the Native peoples in Canada, offered the public its wide range of resources that included books, periodicals, over 40,000 vertical file items, and audio visual materials. The Information Service distributed basic information as it responded to hundreds of requests, and the Ottawa and Toronto Speakers Banks provided speakers to various organizations. Publications included resource publications on various subjects relating to Native peoples, educational material for school children, and "how to" handbooks for Native groups. The Ontario North Today program informed urban Ontarians in 17 communities about resource development issues as well as the culture and lifestyles of Native people in northern Ontario. Workshops in British Columbia gave people associated with friendship centres an opportunity to increase skills in communications, fund raising, and other concerns. Other CASNP activities as well as a financial statement for the year are included in this document. (DS)
