Abstract	Four papers explore the role of women in promoting a peaceful world order. The volume is intended to increase understanding of the linkages between local and global issues, and to examine them as interrelated issues in an interdependent world. The first paper, "Women and Peace," is a historical analysis of the role of individual women, feminists, and suffragettes in working for peace during the late 19th century, World War I, after World War I, and in the United Nations. The second paper, "Vienna Conference: Women and Disarmament," contains excerpts and analyses of speeches made at a 1978 conference of women from non-governmental organizations in 23 countries. Participants discussed three broad topics: economic and social consequences of the arms race on women and the family, peace and disarmament education, and practical means of informing and organizing action by women on disarmament. The third paper, "Women, Power and Alternative Futures, Part I," explores the relationship between women's search for equality and self-realization and the historic drive for national and world security. It examines ways in which the arms race and other national security priorities have been factors in the subordination of women. The fourth paper, "Women, Power and Alternative Futures, Part II," examines the nature of power and the ways women have related to it throughout history. It asks why women do not exercise their power in critical world order issues and indicates a need for the assertion of "feminine" values. (AV)
