AbstractThe effectiveness of a Training Extension Course (TEC) as a means of increasing the Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) proficiency of Army personnel was evaluated. TEC was implemented by the Combat Arms Training Board using sound/slide as the basic media for 56 lessons. Training material relevant to MOS 11B40, Light Weapons Infantryman, was developed by various departments within the U.S. Army Infantry School and distributed to active Army and National Guards units. Analysis of the MOS 11B40 Evaluation Test results showed that 11B40 personnel with TEC material available scored higher on the individual weapons section of the test than personnel not using TEC materials. Units where TEC use was extensive rather than limited achieved the greatest increase in test scores. Among the major factors influencing the outcome of the TEC evaluation were command emphasis, ongoing training programs, verbal ability, and uneven quality and distribution of certain TEC lessons within a particular test area. Appendices include a description of the individual learning carrel with diagrams, a list of TEC lessons available to the units during testing, and the mode of study questionnaire. (Author/CMV)
