Abstract | Forty-eight Social Learning Curriculum (SLC--an innovative educational program for mentally handicapped children) administrators were surveyed to compare SLC programs, their administrators' personal and professional characteristics, and substative responsibilities with special education programs and administrators in general. The results of a previous study (J. Kohl and T. Marro) of special education administrators in general were used as a baseline from which to make comparisons. Among the findings were significant differences between the two groups in the areas of age, training, and age at first appointment to an administrative position. Results suggested that within the parameters studied, the SLC network is representative of special education programs in general and that, in areas where differences were noted, the SLC administrators showed more active involvement in the conduct of their programs than did special education administrators in general. (A copy of the questionnaire is appended). (DLS) |
