AbstractConcerned with changes in enrollment and credit hour patterns, the chancellor of the Kansas City Metropolitan Community Colleges (MCC) created a special Task Force to consider recommendations for marketing strategies for the 1978-79 academic year. The Task Force reviewed regional and district demography, area population trends and density, age and racial distribution, educational characteristics, employment, per capita income, and projected employment patterns until 2025. It also investigated marketing objectives in terms of (1) adult nonstudents and current students, (2) competition for minority and occupational enrollments, and (3) institutional survival. In addition, surveys of area employers and educators and MCC employees were conducted to ascertain their perceptions and evaluations of college services, their characteristics, and their relationships with the college. Of 1,106 employers, 13% responded; over 80% felt MCC was doing an adequate or better job in serving the community, while 24% felt there were educational needs not being met. Of educators, 27% of 862 responded; only 7% felt MCC did not achieve its goals. Only 30% of all MCC employees responded; 76% felt their respective units were doing a satisfactory or better job. Specific survey results, copies of the questionnaires, study implications, and marketing recommendations are included. (TR)
