Abstract | The specific intent of the study was to find out what college graduates mean when they say their job is related to their major, and to what extent and in what instances the major-job relationship influences job satisfaction. The effect of the relationship on job satisfaction and salary is examined, with separate chapters devoted to career outcomes for graduates in particular majors and particular occupations. Approximately 12,000 graduates who had entered colleges nationwide in 1961 and had been working for up to ten years were surveyed for the study, which was conducted between November 1974 and March 1975.
