AbstractThe Test of Auditory Comprehension (TAC), one component of the Auditory Skills Instructional Planning System, is a comprehensive test instrument designed for individual use with hearing impaired pupils, four through twelve years of age, for assessing receptive auditory functioning. Included in the TAC are ten discrete subtests measuring auditory abilities in three major areas: discrimination, memory sequencing, and figure-ground. TAC reliability was derived from the results of 82 hearing impaired pupils who were retested with the TAC within a two -to three-week period after initial testing; a reliability coefficient of .98 was obtained. In addition, variability was studied with 60 pupils, and no significant differences among examiners were found. TAC validity was obtained from the results of 750 hearing impaired pupils, from 29 schools and districts across the country. Results of data analysis, as well as evaluations of the TAC by participating audiologists, demonstrated its validity. Normative data were compiled for this sample, grouped by age and degree of hearing loss. (Author/BW)
