| Abstract | Textbooks in educational administration published in the years 1946 through 1954 were examined for the purpose of testing the theses that the dominant emphases in them were democratic administration and community schools; and that by the end of the period a quest for a new scientific basis for administration would be apparent. A sample of twelve textbooks was selected and examined, with special attention given to the preface/introduction. Textbooks examined revealed much less evidence that a search was beginning for a scientific basis for educational administration than that the philosophy/ideology of democratic administration dominated the period literature. The evidence for a new quest was less pervasive than the more implicit and subtle support for the community school concept. (Author/MLF) |
