Abstract | A consortium effort in Florida was evaluated for the period July 1, 1974 through June 30, 1977. Implemented in Florida's Sarasota County and Manatee County school districts, Manatee Junior College, and the University of South Florida, the project included three components (guidance, curriculum, and placement/follow-up), each functioning at four levels (elementary, secondary, junior college and university). First-year project activities centered on orienting and building knowledge and skills of the consortium staffs; emphasis shifted to secondary and postsecondary levels during the next two years. Major activities and events centered around (1) conducting workshops; (2) working with coordinating councils for vocational, adult, and continuing education; (3) other articulation activities with staffs of consortium members; (4) development of nine products (guides and models for involving the community, counselors, and other school personnel in students' vocational development); and (5) preparation of Florida Vital Information in Education and Work (VIEW) materials, including a special deck for the handicapped. Based on subjective reactions to consortium activities and third-party evaluative data, it was concluded that the project has been successful. For example, student test data, reporting cognitive changes in such areas as job knowledge and planning knowledge, indicated the existence of significant differences in development between students in experimental schools and those in control ones. (The third-party final evaluation report is included in this document; appendixes include tables on staff involvement for the three-year project period. For project products available as separate documents, see the related note.) (TA) |
