Abstract	This paper investigates the second language acquisition of interrogative-word questions in English. It is shown that the data from some bilingual English speakers at Pan American University are comparable to the data noted by others for both second and first language acquisition of interrogative word questions. In particular, interrogative-word fronting always seems to be acquired before subject-auxiliary inversion. Learners never produce interrogative-word questions like "Is she doing what?" Utterances like "What she is doing?" are common, however. Previous description of these facts is found to be insufficient in light of additional relevant cross-dialectal, cross-linguistic, and possibly universal facts about verb and interrogative word placement. Further, these facts are shown to have implications for the description of the rules of wh-fronting and inversion. (Author/CFM)
