AbstractActivities and resource ideas in this guide are designed to contribute to a more relevant art curriculum with students becoming aware of artistic skills necessary in daily living as well as occupational requirements associated with careers in art. The guide is intended to serve as resource materials for teacher use in the classroom or for student use in career centers. Section 1, for counselor and art teacher reference, lists nine occupational skills or attributes and nine art attitudes, each of which is followed by an outline of appropriate art processes, activities which will usually foster the skill or attitude and conditions which usually interfere with the skill or stifle the attitude. Section 2 contains self-awareness and decisionmaking activities and worksheets designed to help students realize that from their school experience will emerge interests and habits affecting their future decisions. Section 3 contains 48 job descriptions which discuss education or training, working conditions, entrance, advantages, disadvantages, social importance, advancement, and other information. Also included are lists of careers closely related to art: (1) Careers in which craftsmanship is the major requirement, and where the craftsmanship aspect of art could contribute to the skill and use of tools; and (2) careers in which a general art training would be of value, mostly in art history and appreciation.
