| Abstract | This investigation explores the feasibility of constructing regression models for predicting teaching success and classroom behavior utilizing various measures of attitudes, personality, and psychological factors as predictors. The purpose of the study is to devise decision models that predict a candidate's success in student teaching as determined by supervisory ratings and to predict the candidate's ability to demonstrate appropriate teaching behaviors as measured by an observation check sheet during student teaching. The criterion variables (achievement data and observation data) and predictor variables (attitude scales, personality scales, and psychological health measures) were collected from 53 student teachers randomly selected from 120 teaching candidates admitted into a secondary level student teaching program. Regression analysis reveals that teaching behavior, but not teaching success, is independent of attitude and personality factors. The regression for the teaching success model suggests a set of predictors for student teaching success. (Author/JMF) |
